Sensei Kevin Downard is the Owner & Head Instructor of Saisei Karate. He started his journey in Shotokan Karate in 2005 under Sensei Dwight Holley. He received his Sandan under Sensei Holley in 2011 and opened his own dojo the same year.
In 2019, Sensei Kevin achieved his 4th Dan under the direction of Scott Langley Sensei. Furthering his dedication to the martial arts, he succesfully completed the month-long internship program at the HDKI Honbu Dojo in Dublin, Ireland. He is a proud member of HDKI-USA.
Passionate about inspiring and empowering the youth of today, he started the Saisei After-school Karate Program, which is currently offered in several local school districts.
He also helped facilitate the development of the Independent Shotokan Alliance (ISA) in 2022.
Sensei Kevin is dedicated to teaching and imparting his knowledge and experience to aspiring martial artists.
Saisei Instructor, Cindy Johnson, started assisting Sensei Kevin with his after-school classes in 2022 and is now teaching her own group of Saisei After-school locations. In 2020, Cindy embarked on her martial arts journey and successfully completed her Nidan test in 2026. Not only does Cindy teach in the after-school classes, she assists Sensei Kevin at the Saisei Dojo and is also the Senior Executive Assistant of Saisei Karate and oversees all clerical and administrative management.
Saisei Instructor Abou Traore started assisting Sensei Kevin with the Saisei After-school Karate Program in 2022 and is now teaching the Saisei After-school Program in several local school districts. Abou also assists in the regular classes at the Saisei Dojo.
Sensei Abou started his training in karate in 1993 - he taught at his own dojo in Mali, West Africa before relocating to the United States.
He currently holds the rank of Nidan.
